johnnie's quilts.

My grandmother raised ten children during the Great Depression. She spent her days sewing colorful quilts by hand, cooking dozens of biscuits each morning, washing clothes in a creek – all in service to her family. She was honored to be voted as Mother of the Year by the Woman's Missionary Union of Immanuel Baptist Church.

The totems each have four sides held together with string. The colors and strings of the totems represent my grandmother’s quilts and the threads that bind families together.
